It is highly recommended for every WordPress user to enable the two-step verification. Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer to your security. It means, if somebody has your WordPress credentials, they will further need your mobile phone to enter your account.
So, two-factor authentication is always essential for every of your online account whether it is your Google account, Twitter account, Dropbox account or WordPress. But, unlike Google, Twitter and Dropbox, WordPress doesn’t have any built-in option to enable two-step authentication.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication for WordPress

Now, I’m going to tell you that how can you enable two-factor authentication for your WordPress using Authy plugin.
So, first of all you will be needed to install and activate this plugin in your WordPress panel. For this, Download the Authy Plugin, then upload and activate it by logging into your Authy account (creating Authy account is described below).
Finding API Key
Do you know that for this plugin to start working, you will be needed to sign up for Authy to add your phone number and get the API Keys.
After signing up for Authy, it will ask you to enter your phone number.
Next, it will ask you to choose the way you wanna receive verification code i.e via app or SMS.
Now, it will send you a first time verification code to verify the ownership. So, after verification, you will get your API Key.
In Your WordPress Panel…
After activating the plugin, navigate to Settings > Authy and then enter the API Keys as found above.
Here save change and finally go to your WordPress profile to enable the two-factor verification by providing your phone number.
Note: Authy doesn’t provide free service. In fact, it is premium service and initially give you the first month free trial so you can test it and take the further decision.
