Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live as a Viking? Or better yet, a Viking assassin? Ponder no more as, thanks to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, that dream is now pretty darn close to reality. Don your assassin gear and grab your axes, it’s time to raid.
Valhalla lets you choose one of two characters, a male or a female that both represent the same protagonist story-wise.
God of War
Unlike previous games in Sony’s God of War franchise, 2018’s God of War is primarily based on Norse mythology, forgoing the series’ long-standing association with Greek mythology. Kratos is back, but he’s never faced enemies quite like these before.
With the release of God of War 2018, one of the best story-driven games of 2018, Sony Santa Monica demonstrated the power of a driven development team and a dedicated cast of prestigious voice actors. Play this one if you’re craving a blockbuster storyline.
The Last of Us Part II
Developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, The Last of Us Part II is a direct sequel to 2013’s The Last of Us, and is set five years after the end of the first game. It’s also one of the fastest-selling Playstation games of all time.
The Last of Us Part II holds the record for the most game of the year awards ever received, with critics praising it for its gameplay, audio, and visual fidelity. Though the narrative didn’t impress some critics, it remains one of the most thought-provoking stories told in a video game format.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has won several Game of the Year awards, with some critics going as far as calling it the best video game of all time. Considering the fact that it’s sold over 26 million copies, it’s a safe bet to assume that those critics are telling the truth.
Players take on the role of Link, one of Nintendo’s most well-established characters. The game is set in the kingdom of Hyrule, a sprawling open-world map that gives players complete freedom in terms of exploration, strategy, and even physics manipulation.
Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus is one of the best-looking games ever released. The Enhanced Edition, a free upgrade for owners of the original game, has been named by Digital Foundry as the best-looking game of 2021.
Set in a post-apocalyptic Moscow, the details on display in Metro Exodus are nothing short of astonishing. From its irradiated subways to its treacherous wastelands, Metro Exodus is beyond atmospheric, and entirely worthy of recommendation.
The Outer Worlds
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, The Outer Worlds is a 2019 action RPG played from a first-person perspective. The game is set in an alternate future, characterized by hyper-corporate culture, a steampunk-esque style, and copious amounts of dry humor.
After creating a custom character, players are thrust into a galaxy-spanning adventure filled with unique enemies and memorable companions. Depending on how many side quests you choose to complete, The Outer Worlds can take anywhere from 30 to 70 hours to finish.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Hailed as one of the best launch titles of the PS5, Spider-Man: Miles Morales had some fairly stiff competition when it was released in November 2020. Despite competing with the likes of God of War in terms of sales, Miles Morales was able to sell over 6.5 million copies.
The developer of the latest Spider-Man entry, Insomniac Games, has released quite a few hit video games, such as Spyro, Ratchet & Clank, and the Resistance series. If reviews of Miles Morales are anything to go by, developers at Insomniac have outdone themselves yet again.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Released in November of 2019, Star Wars Jedi: The Fallen Order is an action-adventure game where you play as Cal Kestis, a Jedi Padawan who finds himself at the center of a galaxy-wide conspiracy, one that will decide the fate of the entire Jedi Order.
Set five years after the events of the third Star Wars film, The Fallen Order takes players on an epic journey that takes about 30 hours to complete. If lightsaber battles, force powers, and challenging enemies sound appealing to you, this is one game you don’t want to miss.
