Data Scientist, Oleg Vasilyev, is said to be a solid candidate in any situation involving complex algorithm and software development because of his “grasp of mathematical, algorithmic and software principals along with the problem-solving skills.” This is the opinion of Tejas Mehta, who works in the fields of algorithm and software development. The two forward thinking men worked together for five years.
Mehta is not the only one who shares such an opinion of Vasilyvev. Others, like Linda Green, Lecturer at the University of North Carolina, said that Vasilyev’s “insight, keen logical mind, and advanced mathematical skills have been a huge asset in his work doing data analysis and simulation.”
Vasilyev’s Education & Expertise
Vasilyev’s higher education began with a Bachelor of Science in Physics at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he also continued to pursue his Master of Science In Theoretical and Mathematical Physics.
After receiving a solid education in the field that he would later excel in, Vasilyev left this now 264-year-old institute to obtain his PhD in Mathematical Physics from the Semenov Institute of Chemical Physics of Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
For the past year, Vasilyev has been applying his expertise and experience as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Primer AI, a machine intelligence company in San Francisco. Vasilyev works with a team to build machines that can read and write, while also analysing large datasets. This technology is used by some of the world’s largest government agencies.
The science behind artificial intelligence and how the world can take advantage of it is a much talked about topic today. Many scientists and businesses are looking into how it can be further developed and what business opportunities it may bring.
Investors are also very keen to keep up with the latest trends around the subject and some see it as the next big thing in the financial world. The fact that Vasilyev has been a part of this scientific adventure for nearly 20 years, shows that his scientific appetite has led him to be a part of ground-breaking work.
Before venturing out to join the Primer AI family and help in the creation of artificial intelligence, Vasilyev worked at Conviva, a company which offers solutions for online video optimisation and online video analytics. He started at the company in October 2014 under the title of Senior Data Scientist and then in 2018, he held down the position of Staff Data Scientist for five months.
As a Senior Data Scientist, Vasilyev worked on quality-engagement and predictive modelling projects, where he applied machine learning on Spark. His experience in applying neural networks to images, health and financial profiles helped him achieve the company’s goal of providing quality metrics which provide a comprehensive view into online video business.
In the last five months of his career with the company, he dealt with Led Deep learning initiative. In this role he created new content while also being on the cutting edge of content engagement predictions.
These are the data scientist’s latest professional achievements but his professional beginnings were formed in 1998, when he took on a job as Software Engineer at Sunnyvale in California, where he obtained enough experience in just one year to move to the position of Data Manager at Aamas Financial Corporation in Los Angeles. Again he wasted no time in soaking up all the knowledge, skills and experiences he needed to climb up the professional ladder and become a Senior Software Developer and Director of Artificial Intelligence at Nethesive.com in California.

Armed with all the experience and confidence of the last three years, Vasilyev then became the owner of his own destiny and opened up his own business. In 2001 Vasilyev Algorithms was born in California. For the next 12 years he delivered solutions to clients, based on application of pattern recognition and neural networks. His clients included OSI Systems, Inc, for whom he built prototypes for 2D and 3D image processing, pattern recognition and threat detection for security X-ray scanners.
After managing to obtain a long line of clients and completing a number of projects with success, Vasilyev moved on to be a Senior Software engineer at Analatom, Inc. for ten months before joining Conviva.
Named a master of Algorithms and Artificial Intelligence related Algorithms work and an amazing Software Engineer, it is no wonder that this Data Scientist who started in Russia and has had a long career in America, continues to add value to the world of science.
