Facebook recently updated its suicide prevention tools with artificial intelligence for live video streaming and messenger. According to the company, the updated tools would give an option to users watching a live video to reach out to the person directly and report the video to Facebook.
Artificial intelligence (AI) will be used for its suicide prevention tools to help spot users with suicidal tendencies, the company announced in a recent blog post.
Here’s How the New Suicide Prevention Tools are Going to be Revolutionary
Suicide prevention tools have been available on Facebook for several years but after this great update, users will be going to get the following benefits:
1. Help People in Real-time on Facebook Live
The integrated suicide prevention tools will help people in real-time on Facebook Live by reaching out the people with suicidal tendencies directly.
The person watching such video can also quickly report it to the support center and Facebook will then provide resources to the person reporting the live video to assist them in helping their friend.
2. Live Chat Support Through Messenger
Facebook also added the ability for people to connect with the crisis support partners over Messenger. Now people will see the option to message someone in real-time directly from the organization’s Page or through Facebook’s suicide prevention tools.
The currently participating organizations include Crisis Text Line, the National Eating Disorder Association and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
3. Streamlined Reporting Through Artificial Intelligence
Facebook is also testing a streamlined reporting process for suicide, assisted by artificial intelligence. This artificial intelligence approach will make it easy to report the posts of people with suicidal tendencies.

Other than this, people sharing a live video will see a set of options on the screen that can be chosen to reach out to friends, contact the help center, or see tips.
So, if you or your friend is in crisis, it’s very important to call local emergency services right away. You can also visit Facebook’s Help Center to know how to support yourself or your friend.
