5G in India

We have all been waiting for the 5G launch in India for the last couple of years. Because many other countries have 5G already since 2019, waiting eagerly is natural. Now, the wait is over as the 5G is finally launched in India.

On 1st October 2022, at India Mobile Congress 2022, prime minister Narendra Modi launched the 5G in India. During the event, Bharti Airtel telecom company announced to roll out its 5G services in India from 1st October 2022. And by doing this, Airtel became the first company to start 5G services in India.

I know you all have numerous questions like what is 5G, how 5G works, in which cities 5G is available, and many more. Don’t worry. Here, I will tell you everything about 5G you should know. Let’s get started.

What is 5G? Speed, Range, and Latency of 5G

Basically, the word ‘G’ in 5G stands for generation, and here we are talking about wireless connectivity. It means the 5G indicates the 5th generation of wireless connectivity. 5G is the successor of 4G mobile networks.

Since the 1980s, when the first generation of cellular networks was introduced, each new generation has come out better than the previous generation. Similarly, 5G is coming into our lives with more speed, more capacity, and less latency than 4G.

According to the recently held Airtel 5G event in India, the highest internet speed that we can get in 5G is 1GBps. Let you know the maximum speed in 4G is 100MBps.

Talking about the range of 5G, we can’t consider any exact number as the range of 5G. One thing that we can say for sure is the range of 5G will be less in comparison to the range of 4G because of the high frequency.

The duration of delay between our click and browser response is called Latency. The latency of 4g was around 60ms but 5G is much less. Considering Wikipedia, the Latency of 5G will be around 10ms to 15ms.

Which Cities Have 5G in India

As I told you earlier, only Airtel started 5G service in India, as of now. But, Airtel didn’t launch 5G pan India. In the starting phase, only 8 cities, including Delhi, Varanasi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Siliguri have 5G in India.

Well, Airtel promised to expand it overall in India by 2024. Moreover, other telecom companies like Reliance Jio and Vodafone are also in the race to launch 5G services in India very soon.

5G Recharge Plans Price In India

In a statement at the 5G launch event, Airtel officials said, “in the early phase, 5G plans will be available at the same price as 4G plans”. After some time when the 5G service will be rolled out in maximum cities, new plans might be launched.

As per the Analysis, the 5G recharge plans can be expensive because of the low range of 5G cells, more 5G cells will have to be deployed to provide seamless connectivity.

5G Bands Support in India

A cellular network works on radio waves of different frequencies. These groups of frequencies are called bands. If the band and the band of the smartphone are the same, then only you can use the network. Although we don’t have any official confirmation, 5G bands that are available in India are as follows, probably.

n1 (2100MHz), n258 (26GHz (24.25 – 27.5 GHz)), n28 (700MHz), n3 (1800MHz), n40 (2300MHz), n41 (2500MHz), n5 (800MHz), n71 (600MHz), n77 (3300–4200MHz), n78 (3300–3800MHz), n79 (4400–5000MHz), and n8 (900MHz).

How 5G Works: Technical Aspects of 5G

According to Wikipedia, 5G technology will use New Radio waves that have a maximum frequency range of 54GHz and bandwidth 400MHz. This frequency range and bandwidth are more than the 4G’s as 4G only have an 8GHz maximum frequency range and 20MHz maximum bandwidth.

And as you know, too high-frequency waves can’t travel more. And that’s why the 5G will have a lower range and more speed than 4G. To break this boundary of a lesser range, small cells, small versions of big cellular towers, will be deployed over short distances.

Because of less distance in 5G tower cells, When the device moves away from one 5G cell, it will come into the coverage area of another and start catching its frequencies so that the device will remain permanently connected to the network.

Moreover, for the solution of a low range of 5G, the Radio Waves are divided into two parts; Frequency Range 1 and Frequency Range 2. Less than 6 GHz Radio Waves will be placed in the F.R. 1 and waves of more than 6GHz frequency will be in the F.R. 2.

The F.R. 1 will have a higher range and slightly lower speed than the F.R. 2, so they will be located in areas where the normal 5G speed will be enough. And the F.R.2 will be in the areas where the consumption of the internet is more and demands will be high.
