Add Last Updated Date in Genesis

Showing the Last Updated date of your blog posts is one of the most effective and easiest ways to make your content look very new and fresh all the time. So, as both search engines and readers love fresh content, why shouldn’t we replace showing the article’s published date with the last updated date so that when the post is updated, the last updated date will show up with the article as well as in search results?

Recently a few days before, I started using Genesis Framework which is much different as compared to independent WordPress themes. So, if you’re using Genesis Framework and want to show the Last Updated date in your child theme instead of the article’s published to date, this article will help you.

Here’s How to Show the “Last Updated” Date on Your Genesis Website

There are lots of plugins designed to make Genesis Framework easy to use. So, also for this purpose, you can install a Genesis Plugin called Genesis Simple Edits in your WordPress panel which lets you very easily display the last updated date in blog posts of your Genesis Framework’s child theme without editing your theme/framework file.

Genesis Simple Edits lets you edit the three most commonly modified areas in any Genesis theme: the post-info (byline), the post-meta, and the footer area.

First of all, install the plugin on your blog from the WordPress Plugins Repository and activate it. Now navigate to Genesis > Simple Edits and by putting post_modified_date shortcode reference in the Entry Meta section of this Simple Edits plugin, you can display the last updated date in your child theme of Genesis Framework, just like as the following.

Update: This plugin is no longer available for download. The reason is that the Genesis Simple Edits plugin is no longer necessary. Yes, you can find these Entry Meta fields right inside your website customizer settings that can be found through Appearance > Customize > Theme Settings.

Other than this, you may also display the last modified time, author name, number of comments, etc. by using many other available shortcodes.

Isn’t the Genesis Simple Edits really made the task simple? I’m sure after reading this post and using the plugin, you’re also going to praise Genesis Simple Edits.

Feel free to discuss with me if you’ve any problem in displaying the last updated date in your Genesis Framework’s child theme.

Finally, I am sure you won’t have any problem with this Simple Edits plugin for Genesis.
