If you’re looking for this guide, you would already know what are OG Meta Tags. Still, for those who don’t know about it, let me explain. OG (Open Graph) Meta Tags are the set of rules that are used to integrate any web page into the social graph.
In very simple words, if somebody wants to create different Meta Data (Title and Description) for search engines and social media, the Open Graph protocol is used.
Open graph protocol is a set of tags that are used to make different metadata for social media and search engines. To manually add open graph protocol to your web page, the following OG Meta Tags can be used:
<meta property=”og:title” content=""/>
<meta property=”og:type” content=""/>
<meta property=”og:url” content=""/>
<meta property=”og:image” content=""/>
<meta property=”fb:admins” content=""/>
<meta property=”og:site_name” content=""/>
<meta property=”og:description” content=""/>
But, if you’re running a WordPress blog, it becomes very, very easy to add open graph protocol to your web page. However, WordPress doesn’t have any such kind of standalone feature but you can do so with the help of a SEO plugin. Two of the most popular WordPress SEO plugins All in One SEO Pack and SEO By Yoast provide the feature to enable OG meta tags for your webpage.
I use All in One SEO Pack, so first of all I will tell you how you can enable OG meta tags in the All in One SEO Pack WordPress plugin. And later I will also give you a hint for SEO by Yoast.

Here’s How to Enable OG Meta Tags in All in One SEO Pack
If you’re using the All in One SEO Pack WordPress plugin, you would know that by default this plugin only lets you create titles and descriptions for search engines but after enabling OG meta tags in the All in One SEO Pack plugin, it will also give you the option to create separate metadata for social media. It means, that when somebody shares your article on Facebook and Twitter, it will display the OG title and description that you created separately for social media.
So, to enable OG meta tags in the All in One SEO Pack plugin, navigate to All in One SEO > Feature Manager in your WordPress dashboard and then activate the Social Meta feature by clicking on the Activate button.
Once you activate this Social Meta feature in the All in One SEO pack, you’ll start seeing a separate section for creating titles and descriptions for social media, like the following screenshot.
Further, if you need to modify some settings in your Social Meta feature of the All in One SEO Pack plugin, you can navigate to All in One SEO > Social Meta and make changes to whatever you want.
That’s all for the All in One SEO Pack. I hope you won’t feel any difficulty in enabling OG Meta Tags in the All in One SEO plugin.
Now, let me give you a little hint about SEO by the Yoast plugin. Following are the steps to implement open graph protocol in SEO by Yoast WordPress plugin:
- Go to plugin Settings (SEO > Social)
- Click on the checkbox ‘Add Open Graph, Meta Data’
- Click on the ‘Add Facebook Admin Button’
