A few days ago, my Android phone’s storage got full. Due to the full storage, I faced many problems installing new apps and shooting videos. Also, the phone’s performance went down. Then I thought I had many videos on my phone that I would have to delete or move somewhere else.
Since those videos are important to me, I couldn’t even think of deleting them, so I decided to move all the videos to the SD card. However, it’s very easy to move videos from an Android phone’s internal storage to an SD card but I found that some people still struggle doing it. That’s why I decided to write a complete step-by-step guide to move videos to SD card on Android phone.
So, if you are one of them and still struggling to successfully move videos to the SD card on your Android smartphone, this guide is for you. In this guide below, I have shared 3 different methods to easily move your videos to the SD card of your Android phone.
3 Ways to Move Videos to SD Card on Android Phone
Thanks to smartphone companies, we have multiple ways to move videos from phone to SD card. These three methods for transferring videos from your Android phone’s internal memory to an SD card are by using the built-in file manager, Google File Manager, and laptop. So, let’s start.
1. Move Videos to SD Card on Android Via File Manager
All smartphones have an app for file management, although the name of the app may not be the same for all smartphones. Different Android smartphones come up with different kinds of file manager apps. The Samsung, Oppo, and OnePlus smartphones have My Files, and Motorola smartphones come with the Files app.
With the help of these file manager apps on your smartphones, you can easily move all your videos to an SD card and empty your Android smartphone’s internal storage. For a detailed guide, follow the steps below.
Note: I have used the Samsung smartphone here, and the attached screenshots are also of the Samsung smartphone. It is possible that your smartphone does not have the same interface, but the steps are most probably the same in all Android smartphones.
- Open the file manager app on your Android smartphone.
- Find the video folder and go to all the videos on your smartphone.
- Next, select all the videos you want to move to the SD card. After selecting videos, you can see the Move option on your screen. If you cannot see the option as shown in the attached screenshot, you can tap on three dots and find the Move option there.
- Now, your smartphone will ask you for the location where you want to move these selected videos. So, go back to the SD card in the file manager app, choose the folder, and tap on the Move Here button.
Selected videos are successfully moved to the SD card. If you select a large number of videos, it may take some time, but it will be done gradually.
If you are facing difficulties in moving your videos to an SD card on your Android phone due to a different interface, don’t worry, I have mentioned alternative methods to move videos to an SD card on Android. Check them out below.
2. Move Videos to SD Card Using Files by Google App
Many third-party file manager apps are available on the Play Store for Android smartphones. These apps can be used to move videos to SD cards. Files by Google is one of these file manager apps for Android.
Because it’s Google’s official app and one of the most famous file manager apps, I am using it to move videos to SD card on Android. Moreover, the app has the same interface on all smartphones, so there will be zero confusion in this method.
- Go to the Play Store and install the Files By Google app on your Android smartphone.
- Open the app. You will see different options, including Videos, Documents, Images, Audio, etc. Tap on the Videos.
- Long press on any one video and then select other videos that you want to move. If you want to select all the videos, tap on the three dots in the top right corner and choose the Select All option.
- After selecting videos, tap on three dots. Here, you can see the Move to option. Tap on it.
- Among the two options, choose the SD card.
- All the folders in the SD card will appear here. Choose the one to which you want to move videos, then tap on the Move here button. You can also create a new folder with the Add new folder option and move videos there.
The selected videos will be moved to the SD card. This method is faster than the last one. Moreover, it offers more compatibility and extra features, like creating a new folder on the SD card.
3. Move Videos to SD Card on Android Using a Windows PC
If both methods don’t work, you should try this one. You will need a Windows system and your smartphone’s charging cable. Let it be clear that you don’t need to be an expert in laptops or PCs to move videos to SD card via this method. You just have to follow the steps below, and you will be able to transfer the videos to the SD card.
- Take the USB (charging) cable and plug one end into your smartphone and the other into the USB port of your laptop or PC.
- You will get an access notification on your smartphone. Tap on Allow to grant access to your data on your laptop or PC.
- Now, you have to open This PC section on your laptop or computer where all your drives are displayed. In most Windows systems, this folder is on the desktop. If not, you can press the Windows key, search This PC in the search bar, and then click on the My PC icon that appears in the search results.
- In This PC folder, you can see your smartphone name. Double-click on the name to open it.
- You will find multiple folders here, including Internal storage and SD card. Open the Internal storage and go to the folder where your videos are stored.
- I opened the Camera folder to transfer videos. Likewise, your videos can also be in different folders. Once you open the folder, it’s time to select the videos that you want to move to the SD card.
- After selecting the videos, use the Ctrl + X shortcut to cut all the videos from this folder, and then go to the SD card and paste these videos using the Ctrl + V shortcut. These are very commonly used Windows shortcuts I am sure you are aware of them.
The process of moving videos will start on your screen. As soon as the process is completed, the videos will be automatically removed from the internal storage and moved to the SD card on your Android phone.
Conclusion
As we all know, smartphones have replaced cameras, and we prefer to shoot videos and photos from our phones instead of cameras. But, smartphones’ limited storage leads to problems like full storage and low performance.
A modern problem needs a modern solution, and here comes the idea of moving videos to an SD card. By moving videos to an SD card, you can empty a large part of your Android phone’s internal storage, which will boost the performance of your Android smartphone.
