Holi, the festival of colors, is just around the corner and everyone is excited to enjoy this colorful festival. For people like me who love to play Holi with colors and water, the enthusiasm is beyond control. It is that time of the year when we are all out of the houses, playing with colors and water, making merry, and enjoying ourselves.
If you are also planning to do the same, then you might need some useful tips to keep your smartphone and smartwatch safe. In today’s time, it is impossible to leave them at home but during such festivals, it also becomes a challenge to keep these costly gadgets safe. We need them to click pictures, videos, take or make calls, go live while playing Holi, etc.
Tips To Keep Smartphone and Smartwatch Safe During Holi
These days companies claim that their gadgets are waterproof, but my suggestion is not to test that at all. Such warranties provide protection only up to a certain extent. So, here are a few tips that will help you to keep your smart gadgets from getting spoiled with colors and water while playing Holi.
1. Water Balloons
Yes, water balloons, you read that right! It sounds weird and surprising but I have been using this a lot to keep my smartphone and smartwatch safe during Holi. Simply stretch the balloon and wrap it around your smartwatch or phone, then tie the knot below. With this, you will be able to use your phone as well, but make sure the balloon quality is good enough else it may tear.
Water balloons offer a thin and adjustable layer around the gadget and makes it waterproof. Thus, it is very budget-friendly and a safe option for your smartphone and smartwatch during Holi.
2. Waterproof Zip lock Bags
Waterproof zip lock bags are one of the best and easiest means to keep your smartphones safe from water and color. Simply keep your phone inside the zip lock, in your pocket. This will prevent water and color from entering the phone body while you are busy splashing water. These waterproof pouches are easily available in the market, both offline and online.
The main issue I faced using the zip lock bag was that it was not feasible to pull out my phone each time I wanted to take a picture or make a call. So, I suggest you go for an air and waterproof zip lock that is similar in size to your smartphone. This way you will be able to use your phone even while it’s in the zip lock. Moreover, these zip lock bags now also come with a sling for you to swing around your shoulder.
3. Waterproof Smartwatch Cover
For smartwatches, you can use waterproof wristband covers that are easily available in the market. Various brands like Apple offer smartwatch covers. If you have a smartwatch other than Apple, you will still find many waterproof covers for your watch. Just wear your smartwatch with the waterproof cover and enjoy the festival without bothering about water or color spoiling your smartwatch.
I suggest you must have one waterproof cover for your smartwatch as it will become handy even during rainy days.
4. Phone Case, Screen Cover, and Lens Protectors
If you are a persistent smartphone user and cannot keep it inside your pocket, but still want to enjoy the colorful Holi festival, then don’t worry. There is an easy fix for it. Buy a low-cost phone case cover and camera lens cover for your smartphone. Besides, I also suggest using a good-quality screen cover.
Even if it gets stained after Holi, you can easily remove these accessories and throw them away. This way you will be able to use your phone while playing Holi with colors and water. It will keep your smartphone safe and at the same time allow you to use it to take pictures or calls.
5. Dust Plugs
If you do not want to keep the smartphone or smartwatch in a cover, then make sure you are not too much into water and colors. You can buy silicone dustproof plugs for the open ports of your smartphone, just to be safe. Conceal them and enjoy the festival. It may not fully protect the phone from water but at least the open ports won’t get wet with water or blotted with color.
However, I would recommend using this option only if you are not a passionate Holi lover.
6. Cellophane Sheets/ Cling Film
I have once tried covering my smartphone with a cellophane sheet as well. If you are unable to grab any of the above on time, then this is the best option. It is the same sheet we used as kids to cover our textbooks and notebooks. It is a very effective way to keep your smartphone safe during Holi. When wrapped in it, you can still use your phone and capture the beautiful memories of the festival.
Another good way is to wrap your smartphone or smartwatch with a cling, just like you wrap a sandwich. These quick fixes are really great, helpful, and readily available at home.
7. Keep your Gadgets at home
By far, the best option to keep your gadgets safe from the colors of Holi is to keep them back at home. I feel if you have your friends or family using their phones to click pictures and videos, then no need to carry yours. Hence, you can enjoy the festival without worrying about spoiling your possessions.
Precautions to take while following the above tips:
- Make sure your smartphone and smartwatch are in silent mode. This will keep your speakers safe, in case the phone comes in contact with water.
- Do not keep the biometric lock on your phone during this time, else you will not be able to access your phone instantly. I suggest keeping a pattern to unlock your phone.
- Use duct tape to keep the open pores of your gadget sealed.
Conclusion
It is practically impossible to stay away from our smart gadgets. Moreover, we all want to stay updated on social media, post live happenings, click pictures, etc., especially during festivals. Just follow any of the above-mentioned tips to safeguard your smartphones and smartwatches from the Holi water and colors. Enjoy this festival of colors to the fullest without bothering about spoiling your costly gadgets.
