1. Use Router With Latest WiFi Standard

If you’re facing very bad WiFi signal strength, the first thing you should do is upgrade your router to the latest version. For this, you need to check what WiFi standard your router is running on now.

The most latest WiFi standards in the market are 802.11ac and 802.11n. So, if your router is running on either 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g standard, a new router with the latest WiFi standard will definitely boost your WiFi speed.

2. Set the Least Crowded WiFi Channel

If your neighbors and nearby offices are also using WiFi, it’s possible that your default WiFi channel starts facing some crowd. In that case, you should set your router to the least crowded WiFi channel.

Generally, the 2.4GHz frequency is crowded. But, if you’re using a router with the latest WiFi standards like 802.11ac and 802.11n, you might change your channel frequency between 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Whether it’s a smartphone or laptop, we used to keep the power-saving mode on. Why? Just to save some battery of the device. But, you would have never known that it can also sometimes affect your internet speed.

It’s the same case with routers. Not actually with all routers but some are set up with a power-saving mode by default. So, what you can do is turn off the power-saving mode by navigating to WiFi power settings via your computer or laptop.

Most people do the same thing with the router when facing slow internet speed. What I suggest is to schedule your router to reboot automatically every day so that every time you turn your WiFi on, it will give you a fresh start and boost in performance.

8. Buy a Powerline Adapter or WiFi Extender

WiFi extenders, repeaters, or boosters are basically the same things but different names. A WiFi booster helps in amplifying the existing signal and rebroadcasts it. 4G signal boosters are also a great choice. You can use a mobile phone signal booster to speed up your WiFi performance.

According to some sources, a powerline adapter is much powerful and trustworthy as compared to a WiFi extender. The powerline adapter creates new WiFi hotspots so that the WiFi singles can be reached even in the areas of your room where the router itself cannot send the signals.

Keeping the firmware up-to-date is always a good thing. It helps improves the hardware performance, whether it is a router or any other hardware.
