Available to Users on WhatsApp Beta for Android
The latest WhatsApp beta app brings this video calling feature which is currently available only to those users who are part of the company’s official Android beta testing program.
The functionality appears to be working across several WhatsApp beta versions, from v2.16.316 onwards.
In case, you’re not part of the beta testing program, will get a prompt saying “Couldn’t place call” followed by text, “Couldn’t place call. Recipient [name of contact being called] needs to update WhatsApp to receive video calls.”
Unfortunately, it’s not now sure about its availability to all users of WhatsApp. However, it has been planning to be rolled out for many months but now WhatsApp took a decision to start rolling out video calling to its beta version. Once the testing will be fine and satisfied, it should soon be available to all users.
How to Use WhatsApp Video Calling if You’re in?
First of all, you need to make sure if this video calling feature is available for you or not because it’s now not rolling out for everyone, instead just to selected users, even those who’re using the WhatsApp beta version.
First of all, update your WhatsApp to the latest version to ensure if this feature is rolled out for you or not. And if you’re in selected users, you can try making video calls.
The new video calling feature can be accessed via the calls tab. For making a video call, you will have to tap on the dialler icon present alongside the search icon. After pressing the dialler icon, you will get an option to either make a WhatsApp voice call or video call. Here you can tap on Video call option to start face-to-face conversation with your WhatsApp contact.
It’s worth noting that feature will work only when the caller and the recipient are part of the Android beta testing program.
